Fade Ins When I give times for Fade In it doesn't mean that the song actually fades in but that you can fade it in yourself while talking/introducing the song etc.
Fade Outs Some of the songs have fade outs on the track which are gradual. The timings on this page are those which the DJ can manually fade out if necessary (some of the songs are a bit too long for radio play). When a few timings are given they are usually just after the beginning of repeat choruses etc.

01
Wait!   (60’s beat)   3:12   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: In the mid 1970s I was in a beat group in Dublin and wrote a few songs of that genre.
Fade In: 8 seconds
Fade Out: anytime from 2:32 onwards

Although You’re Gone   (pop)   4:05   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: Written in 1998 when my elderly neighbour, Catherine McNulty, died. She was a good neighbour. I first met her when she introduced herself to me when I moved to Saula in 1994 and I always had a wave for her when I was passing her house. The words of the song say it all. I still have fond memories of her.
Fade In: 15 seconds
Fade Out: anytime from 3:30 onwards
03
Achill Island (pop/rock)   3:46   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: The melody was written in 1973 as a slow air with only the first lyric line. It was only after moving to Achill in 1993 that I was finally able to finish the song and change the tempo.
Fade In: 6 seconds
Fade Out: from 2:45 (drastic) and from 3:27 onwards
04
Rainy Day (folk pop)   2:59   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: I don't like folk songs. I don't write folk songs. I don't know how this song slipped into my collection. Yet it's a nice song. I like it a lot. I am saving my honour and self respect by calling this a 'folk pop' song.
Fade In: 6 seconds
Fade Out: not suitable

The Hooley (& A Jig in Rathfarnham) (celtic rock)   4:26   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: This was written so long ago that guitars were in black and white. Most of my songs are sad and negative. I don't know how the lyrics came into my head. Most songs when they have a key change either go up a tone or go to the 5th but this track goes from E major (melodic) to E minor (rock). It works. I grew up in Rathfarnham and thus the inclusion of that place in the sub title.
Fade In: not suitable, except the ending of the vocal part is 1:07 if the instrumental section is only required
Fade Out: from 2:48, from 3:17, from 4:20
06
Your Song (romantic ballad)   4:16   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: It is a fact of life that young 'plain' girls suddenly turn into pretty teenagers, and capture the attention and interest of unsuspecting males. It has been going on for thousands of years and yet, to the male involved, it is a total surprise and revelation. Such are the joys of nature.
Fade In: 6.5 seconds
Fade Out: from 3:15 onwards
07
Angel Called Love (world pop)   3:30   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: The 'song' began as just a bit of guitar picking in 1978 and then I wrote the first 2 verses and the break. When I recorded the song in 2004 I added percussion and pipes and transformed the song into something very interesting.
Fade In: 15 seconds
Fade Out: 3:12 (drastic),

Dancing Gang (rock n’ roll)   3:56   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: What can one say about rock n' roll? Great !!
Fade In: 2 seconds (talk FAST !!)
Fade Out: any time from 3:12, or from 3:32
09
It’s No Use (melodic blues)   4:40   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: Fundamentally this is just a simple blues song, but with the sus4th chord (the dulcimer) and the harmonies it doesn't quite seem like blues. This seems to be a very angery song but this is one of those cases where the lyrics are merely there to accompany the melody. It was written in the very very early 1970s when I was only 15 or 16 years old. I may be as negative now but at this stage of my life it is more to do with realism than negativity.
Fade In: not suitable
Fade Out: anytime from 3:26 onwards

On A Saturday (adult album alternative)   4:35   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: This song was inspired by the terrible act of terrorism and violence which occured in Omagh, Co Tyrone, Ireland, on Saturday 15th of August 1998, when an IRA terrorist parked a car, which was packed with explosives, in the busy main street. When it exploded it killed 29 people and also killed unborn twins. It maimed others. It destroyed many many lives. The chord structure and melody were written on that terrible day. The words were written about 2 years later.
Fade In: 6 seconds (drastic)
Fade Out: not suitable

Springtime Blues (jazzy blues instrumental)   4:50   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: This is Lou. In the early 1970s I played lead guitar with a bass guitarist (Liam Slattery). We played songs similar to Cream (Eric Clapton) type instrument solos. This was the time of 'heavy' rock. We played for hours on end and the songs were long. Since then lead guitar playing was in my blood, yet for 30 years I played very little electric lead. When I was recording this CD I had problems with my throat which effected my singing and so I decided to add an instrumental. This is the result. For those who don't understand improvisation - I was 'making it up' as I went along - nothing was rehearsed - this was a 'one take' experience. THIS is the real Lou.
Fade In: not suitable
Fade Out: from 3:12 IF YOU DARE !!, and from 4:00 (beginning of last verse) onwards - but you'll make me cry

Singing High (adult album alternative)   6:06   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: It is a terrible truth that human beings try to exterminate other human beings for many different reasons. It has been going on for millenia. This song is about the concentration camps set up by the Nazis during WW2. I heard a story that some elders met and truly questioned whether god had abandoned them. It certainly looked that way. Unfortunately, now, to a certain extent, the victims have become the abusers. That is yet another terrible truth. Nothing changes.
Fade In: 14 seconds (it actually slightly fades in on the track)
Fade Out: 4:20 onwards, 4:44 onwards more suitable, 5:36 onwards

Baby Carrie (orchestral)   4:05   -   Play Full   -   Music Shop   -   Song Page
Info: This piece started as humming to a chord exercise. After I recorded the orchestrated version I decided to name it after a baby. This baby had been savagely stabbed many times and brutally beaten to death within a few hours of her arrival into this world - in the north of Ireland. This poor little creature had suffered miserably during her very very short life - more so than most people suffer in their whole lives. She had been given the name 'Carrie' by the police as no one knew her name - if she had ever been given a name before her brutal and savage death.
