Although You're Gone
(pop) - 4:08

We used to chat and pass the time of day
I'd pass your house and look for you
Sit on the wall and talk of friends and things
It was a pleasant thing to do.

But then I noticed that you weren't around
I didn't know just what to think
They said you wouldn't be returning home
It made my spirit sadly sink.

Chorus :
Although you're gone I will remember you
Your smilings face, your friendly wave.
Although you're gone.

And I just hope you've made a change in me
To see that life can be so good
I'll pass it on just like a daisy chain
I get the feeling that I should.

Chorus :
Although you're gone I will remember you
Your smilings face, your friendly wave.
Those happy times are in my memories
But things can never be the same, again
And it's a shame.
Although you're gone.

Chorus :
Although you're gone I will remember you
Your smilings face, your friendly wave.
Although you're gone. Although you're gone etc..

Song Information

I first met Catherine McNulty when I moved to Saula, Achill in 1994. I ended up living in the house next door to this lovely woman - this lovely neighbour. She had lived a hard life yet she remained both cheerful and friendly.

When I used to walk by her house on the way to cut turf on the bog I used to stop and we would have a chat about this and that. When passing in my car I'd always look out and see her with her smile and wave.

Then sadly, over a very short period around christmas 1997, she took ill and went into hospital and within a few weeks she was dead and would never return to her home. I had lost a good neighbour. So I just had to write a song about her. This isn't a sad song but a song to celebrate her smile and her cheerfulness. Although she's gone I still remember her and have fond memories of her.
