Song Information

This composition began, in the very early 1970's as a background humming to a guitar chord exercise when I had discovered the diminished chord structure on guitar and was playing E major to the F#dim chords - it was merely a melody to accompany the chords.

Until the end of February 2003 it never had a name. When I heard the final result coming from the computer I realised that I had just witnessed the most wonderful transformation from a simple melody to what I can only describe as one of my masterpieces. I had to find a name for it.

That evening (Monday 24th Feb 2003) there was a news item on the television about the coroner's report on the dead baby who had been found the previous year in the north of Ireland. This baby had been savagely stabbed many times and brutally beaten to death within a few hours of her arrival into this world. This poor little creature had suffered miserably during her very very short life - more so than most people suffer in their whole lives. She had been given the name 'Carrie' by the police as no one knew her real name - most likely she had never been given a name before her brutal and unforgiving death.

This beautiful piece of music is named after that little unfortunate unloved soul.
