Turf Cut By Machine In Achill
Getting a machine to cut and spread the turf makes things very easy for some people but it takes away the enjoyment of working on the bog, especially when the weather is sunny and warm.
Also, it is a very productive way of exercising and getting fresh air. Working outdoors, at a gently pace, is a pleasant way of spending some 'quality' time.
When turf is cut by hand it is usually thrown about in an untidy manner but notice how 'tidy' the turf is spread by the machine. It is laid out very neat. The machine cuts about 10 sods wide and 4 or 5 sods deep.
