Church, With Church Tower, In Ennistymon, Co Clare, Ireland
This is a pencil sketch of a Church in Ennistymon, Co Clare, Ireland.
There is an unusual reason why I sketched this.
In 1986 I stayed for a weekend in Ennistynom. The previous day, the day before I sketched this, I had visited another local village - Lahinch (I think) - and when I was there I ate in a 'food hall' - a basic restaurant, or 'take away' which only opened in the summer. I had ordered fish and chips and the girl serving had forgotten to place the order for the fish. Obviously when I pointed out their mistake they quickly cooked a fish - but unfortunately they didn't cook it quite well enough.
As a result when I awoke on the Sunday (or the Monday) my stomack was not feeling very good. I felt really sick. All I could do on that sunny day was to go into the nearby graveyard and sit on a gravestone to await my bus back to Dublin.
While I was in the graveyeard - feeling like death itself!! (no better place!) - I had the very good sense to take out my sketchbook and make this wonderful sketch. So, in a nut-shell, I sketched this because I was suffering from mild food poisoning!
I am delighted with the shadow on the side of the church and that stained glass window. When I look at this sketch I wish I had the motivation to do more sketching. I think it's beautiful. I am really proud of this sketch
